The “soleil” — sun — motif runs through both pieces: a radiant disc with softly textured rays, like sunlight on water. It’s an ancient symbol (the sun has meant life, warmth, and constancy in every culture that ever worked gold) given a contemporary lightness: not a heavy medallion, but a delicate disc that moves and catches light. Design Notes — The Pendant

The pendant is a textured sun-disc, approximately 14mm in diameter — present enough to anchor a neckline, delicate enough for daily wear. The disc’s face is hand-textured with radiating lines that catch light differentially: as the pendant moves, brightness ripples across it like sun on a lake. The edge is softly milled, giving a finished glint that frames the texture. It hangs from a fine cable chain (45cm + 5cm extender) through a simple bail that lets it swing freely — movement is essential to the design, because a static sun-disc is just a coin.

Design Notes — The Earrings

The drop earrings echo the pendant at a smaller scale: 10mm sun-discs suspended from short drops (total drop approximately 25mm). They’re scaled for the ear — large enough to read as “earrings” from conversation distance, light enough to wear all day without thought. The drops allow the discs to sway gently when you move, so the pair creates a continuous shimmer around the face. They close with secure butterfly backs (silicone-lined, as with all our studs and drops).

Why a Set Works

Matching sets fell out of fashion when “matchy” became a criticism — but the Soleil was designed for the current moment, when intentional coordination reads as polished rather than dated. The key is that the pieces share a motif, not identical scale: the pendant’s 14mm disc and the earrings’ 10mm discs are related but not twins, creating rhythm rather than repetition. Worn together, they frame the face and neckline in a continuous language of warm gold and moving light.

Craftsmanship

The sun-disc texture is applied by hand, disc by disc, using a graver — a tiny chisel — guided freehand. No two discs have identical ray patterns, which is precisely the point: machine-stamped texture is perfectly uniform and perfectly lifeless; hand-cut rays have the slight variations that make light behave interestingly. After texturing, each disc is polished on the high points only, leaving the ray valleys with a soft matte that deepens the contrast.

The pendant bail and earring drops are soldered (not glued or pinched), the chains’ links are soldered closed, and every moving joint is tested for smooth swing without wobble. The set is finished as a pair: pendant and earrings textured in the same session by the same hand, so the ray patterns share a family resemblance. Before boxing, the two pieces are photographed together to confirm visual harmony.

Discs: brass with 18k gold plating, hand-textured sunburst, high points polished. Pendant chain: fine cable, 45cm + 5cm extender, 18k gold plate. How to Wear It

Together: the full set is a complete formal look — no additional jewellery needed, though the Aurelia ring or Luna hoops (in second piercings) won’t argue. The sun motif’s warmth flatters every skin tone and glows against both dark and light fabrics. It’s particularly beautiful with open necklines that give the pendant room to sit.

Separately: the pendant layers beautifully — try it over the Chaine d’Or for a textured-on-smooth contrast, or under the Perla for pearl-over-sun warmth. The earrings are a perfect daily drop: more interesting than studs, less demanding than chandeliers. Care Instructions

The hand-textured discs need gentle cleaning to preserve their contrast: soak in warm soapy water, brush very softly with a baby toothbrush following the ray pattern (never scrub across it, which can polish the valleys flat), rinse, and dry completely. The texture’s recesses can trap lotion — put the set on after cosmetics. Store pendant and earrings separately in the box’s compartments so the discs don’t scratch each other. Check earring backs monthly. The texture can be refreshed by our replating service, which re-cuts the contrast during refinishing.
